Not sure what to do or the right program

I have a website that is static and built with Front Page 2002. It is time to
take my business to a different level on the web but I don't know whether
Front Page will do it, I don't know where to find the directions for it if it
is or what to use if it's not. I am hoping someone can give me some direction.

Here's what I am trying to do....
I am going to offer training on demand for people on the web. I am pretty
sure I can add the files i need to the website and allow for download.

But people need to sign in. I need to set it up so people can sign up to
just take one half hour class or sign up for a monthly fee to take as many
as they want. And if they sign up for a monthly, a way for them to sign in
with passwords.

I do it all the time on the web but I am getting dizzy trying to find how to
go about it. Help?!

Terri

Requires a database solution with server side coding (all dependent on what your server supports and your coding skills)
The DB would need a member management system (for creating an account or logging in later) which would control access to the content

But what program should I use and does it work with Front Page? If it
doesn't, what program should I use?

I have no web coding skills but I write Access dbs for small businesses.
Once I know where to go with for the program, I think I can figure it out. I
went to the bookstore to try to figure it out but just got confused because
nothing seemed to tell me where to start or which program to use.

Thanks
Terri

If you know access and VBA you can learn VB script and use ASP (w/ VB script) and Access, but only on a Windows hosted server for
your site that supports both
See http://www.w3schools.com/asp/default.asp and http://www.w3schools.com/ado/default.asp

IMHO
This task is not one for a beginner, as it will require some complex coding to achieve what you want correctly and safely
- recommend you engage a professional to do it for you (you can learn from their code)
- or search for an ASP member management system in Google

What's that software Cheryl uses on Community Server to teach her web
classes...maybe something like that will work (?)...or be adapted to work.

Stefan and Rob, thank you both. I know ultimately I am going to have to learn
this as I am also finding some of my db would be far better with internet
access. Couple more questions...

First the dumb one, are asp and asp.net the same thing?

Next, can you recommend any tutorials or books. i am self taught in
everything I have ever done on a computer, so this just may be one more
thing. And on that topic, having discovered the forums and great people like
you two who are willing to help, it has become much faster than the hours I
used to pour over books and help. I still go there first but the forums have
been a god sent.

Thanks
Terri

1) No ASP.net is not the same as ASP
See http://www.w3schools.com/aspnet/default.asp

2) The W3school links are a good place to start
- the technology depends on what your hosted server supports
