not valid win 32 document

Polly

I received a free office 2003 trial with my computer - I used it then
unistalled it. Now word 97 won't open saved files - even new ones created on
word 97. I get C:\documents and settings\HP administrator\desktop\name of
document\is not a
valid WIN32 application. How can I fix this?
PS tried to re-register per instructions using winword/r, and it can't find
the file.

Thanks!

If you click on Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs,
do you see Office 97 in the list of installed programs?

If yes, then use Windows Explorer to search your hard drive for
the WINWORD.EXE file (be sure to include hidden and system files
and folders in the search options), and then include the path to
your WINWORD.EXE file in the re-register command. For example:

Start | Run | Open: "c:\<path>\winword.exe" /r

but replace <path> with the actual path to your winword.exe file,
and include the quote marks if the path contains spaces.

If no, then you will need to reinstall Office 97 using the
original CD and product key.
