notation

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Today I open Excel to work on my existing excel files and all of a sudden in ALL my excel files, when I type 1 the notation is 0.01....it doesn't matter which cell of which excel file, even the cells already in use with a number, when I type a new number in that cell it all of a sudden has the 0.01 notation for the number 1....anyone idea how to solve this?? What could have happened overnight in my imac that made this happen

In Excel> Preferences - Edit clear the check for "Display this number of
decimal places".
