Note Flags Summary

Rebecca

Greetings. I am using OneNote 2007 (beta), and I am having some trouble
getting the "Note Flags Summary" to work properly. I have flagged a dozen or
so paragraphs on various Pages in various Sections (to test out how the
program works), but when I do a "Show All Flag Notes," only a couple of these
note flags appear in the "Note Flags Summary" task pane. And the little
search icon in the pane keeps "Searching..." but doesn't seem to be able to
ever find what it is looking for, namely, these dozen or so note flags.

Is this because the search engine that was shipped with the beta does not
work properly? I downloaded and installed WDS3 when I installed the beta, by
the way, and yes I have left the program open so it can index all the
information stored there (it would be nice to have some way to find out if
the indexing is completed, or its staus, but maybe this information will be
available when the product is finally released).

It is somewhat hard to understand why MS would send out a beta for testing /
trial purposes with this feature (and the searching function in general) in
such an incomplete state. I hope and pray ON 2007 will be able to compete
adequately with its competitors (UltraRecall, EverNote, InfoSelect, AskSam,
etc.) in this all-important area, because I'm starting to like ON 2007 a lot.
Thanks for you help.

Hi Rebecca,

I'd blame the search engine too. Wait for the next beta release.

Why not? It's beta and beta used to mean that you are dealing with a
product full of bugs. Unfortunately, the never-ending betas in recent
years of Google (and some of Microsoft) have changed the expectation of
people what beta means. Now the expectation is often that the software
is of release quality, but free.
The Office 2007 beta (which includes ON 2007) is a true beta and has
quite a few flaws. Things not working right is part of the deal you
accepted when you installed it. They'll get this fixed and working for
release time, no doubt about that.
