Note levels on Word documents

When i am taking notes on something and i press enter to start a new bullet, i push tab to indent it even further as a subset of the previous line.
If i hit enter, then tab and then delete, the entire line is deleted not just the indentation. If i drag the invisible bubble over i can set the new line where i want it. But i want to know if i can set my mac so that i don't need to drag the line over with the mouse, rather press delete to go back an indent and not delete the entire line.

I think you are not clear in your mind as to the difference between a "line"
and a "paragraph".

In Word, a line is just that, a line of text. A paragraph is a container:
it may contain text, it also contains several hundred different formatting
properties.

One issue that you have is that you have not turned on your non-printing
characters, so you won't even be able to SEE the paragraph marks that are
controlling your document.

Go into Page Layout View, click the ¶ on the Standard toolbar until you can
see the paragraph marks at the ends of the paragraphs.

When you can, you will understand immediately when I tell you that the
bullets and numbering formatting is stored in the paragraph mark. So if you
press Delete at the end of a "line" and delete the paragraph mark, you have
also deleted the bullets :)

Your formatting options are very limited in Notebook View. The easiest
thing would be to stick with the Tab key. Behind the scenes, it is applying
formatting styles to the paragraphs: Note Level 1 through 9. But you can't
even see that in Notebook View.

I would finish your notes and save the document, then switch to Print Layout
view, where you will be able to format properly. It's important to save
first: Word has a bad habit of crashing when you switch out of Notebook View
:)

Hope this helps
