Notebook Layout will not go away

I have somehow acquired the Notebook "tool" via a document that a colleague sent to me in that format, which is very good and useful. Unfortunately it also gets in the way! I have sent a copy of a document (that I created in Notebook originally) to someone and they only want to view it in standard page view (as do I now).
We are both aware that selecting the view is possible from the toolbar, but how do you prevent Word from always opening the document in Notebook layout when it is no longer required? I am using MS Word 2004 for Mac, v 11.5.5

I've had the same problem. And this can't (or shouldn't) be the official solution but I found that I had to copy the entire document, open a new document *not notebook format* and then paste.

There probably is (or ought to be) an easier way, but after a little bit of time searching and trying things that should have worked (and didn't), this seems to have accomplished my needs in a timely manner.

Thanks for the info. I've tried your solution (or think it's what I've done!), but the problem comes when the person I have sent the file to opens it up. Even though I pasted in to an "ordinary' Word document (as opposed to Notebook), it opens as a Notebook file. I'm trying the process again, and also following something else I've read on the Forum about ensuring that the last file you open/close is a "normal" document. I think I'll also add that advice to my colleague and see where we get.

I'm not sure which posting you're referring to, but that is the basic key --
Word "remembers" what mode was last used & continues to use it for new docs.
Alternatives Include: Create a new non-NB document using Project Gallery or
click the right edge of the New Document button [I believe so in 2004] to
select a different option, switch to Print (Page) Layout View after
generating a new NB doc, or open an existing document that's in a view other
than NB before creating a new one.

Thanks for that. I've done as suggested and sent another file to my colleague - we'll see what comes of this one! Can't find the right edge thingy on the New document button - but that could just be me!

Yeah, I just checked & the button change took place in 2008 -- Sorry, but I
was going from memory on that.

The other methods should not present a problem in 2004, though.

Well, thanks for your help anyway. It's good to know that I've found somewhere to come to in search of answers where people actually respond!
