notebook tabs

I had a document in notebook in which I had named the tabs. My
computer recently changed all the tabs to numbers. It won't allow me
to change them back. I opened a new notebook document, hoping to
transfer my document into a new one so I could rename the tabs, but
all my new notebook documents come up with numbered tabs that will not
select in order to be changed. Can anyone help me?

On the status bar at the very bottom of your document window, click on "Show
Section Tab Titles" and make sure the dot next to that label is green.
