Notebook View Freezes Often - Help

V

Vinnie Boombotts

Using Notebook view is great, but it often freezes.
I get the spinning wheel, and I need to force quit, losing all of my
changes. The document doesn't even show up in the recent menu.

This usually happens when I paste text from a web browser into my Notebook
document, but it recently did this when saving.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have repaired permissions, no change.
I have Mac OS X 10.3.8.

Thanx

And have you updated Office 2004 to 11.1?

Consistent and reproducible problems often respond to the standard
troubleshooting measures, which are listed here.

http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

The problem is, Notebook Layout is rather new, so we aren't totally sure how
it works--but the last person given this advice for Notebook problems has
not yet come back to complain that none of them worked, so....

On the other hand, you refer to "the document". Is this always the same
document? We really don't know much about whether corrupt Notebook
documents are the same as regular Word ones, but the corrupt doc fixes are
listed here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/DocumentCorruption.htm
(hit reload a few times in Safari, if that doesn't work, try Explorer)

Thank you for answering.

Yes, I have updated to 2004 11.1.

This happens with several documents. I have resorted to pasting my text
into a text editor, then copying and pasting into Notebook.

This has worked once so far, so not sure if this is a long term fix.

Thank you again.

So try working through the standard troubleshooting measures, and see if any
of them help.

Hi Vinnie:

Yep: Word's HTML ability is "limited". Pasting out of a browser is likely
to produce problems because you will hit HTML that Word can't handle.

The work-around you have found is the one I use.

Another work-around is to use the Web toolbar in Word to open the web page
directly, then paste from there. That will also bring the text in without
crashes, and you will keep some of the formatting.

Hope this helps
