Notes attached to a day

Calendar is great for managing appointments, but I don't know if you can
just write a note attached to a day, like you might do in a diary i.e.
NOT an appointment.

Is there any way of attaching an Oulook note to a day so that I can see
it in the calendar (without alarms etc)?

You can create an entry in your Calendar folder and not set a reminder. Or you can create such entries in the Journal folder and display that folder in a day/week/month view.
