Notes categories after re-install

I have about 30 notes categories that I have persoanlly created.

I had to do a re-install, and Outlook 2000 reimposed its own notes
categories.

Is there some easy method (other than typing them in again) to get my
personal category entries back into the category dialog box?

For Outlook 2000 the categories are stored in the registry. If you have
re-installed all the computer, the categories are lost if there's no backup.

If you just re-installed Outlook, it sounds like you have upgraded from
OL2000 to a newer version. In that case you can use Category Manager to get
your categories back (see the link in my signature): Export the categories
from the registry, for OL2000 they were stored here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Categories

Then use Category Manager to import that *.reg file.
