Notes do not appear from MS Project to PWA

When you insert a column 'Notes' in a master project in MS Project and with
the subprojects some notes are added to the 'Notes' column, how come the
notes doesn't appear on the PWA, Project Center when a column of 'Notes' is
added? Is there a way to make this happen?

Does that even make sense? Lol.

Thanks people

Thanks for the feedback chris. Is there a way to write in some notes on each
project summary in the Master file and then when you publish it, it will show
in the project center?

Hi

The short answer is no

Even if you enabled publishing master projects to the project server

The only project level note would be for the master project - the inserted
projects are not actually published (they are still considered tasks within
the master for the purposes of publishing)

The original project is not updated with this information

You will have to individually open each enterprise project - display task -
add a note and publish the plan

I hope this saves you time and pain in experimenting with publishing master
projects

Chris,

Yeah thanks for telling me. You have saved me time in experimenting with the
notes column trying to publish it!

Anyways, i was just wondering is there another solution I could get this
information to the PWA without having to open every enterprise project and
type the notes in there and then publish it? Another form of notes perhaps?

Thanks

Hi

There is a workaround ...

Open the enterprise global and add an Enterprise Project Text Custom field
Name the field but leave "none" selected under custom attributes

Save the enterprise global and close project

Open the Project Web Access client and go to admin > manage views

Either add a new project centre view or modify an existing project centre
view to include the new enterprise custom field (Enterprise Project Text**
(name) - Position the field conveniently to see the notes as you add them
Save the view

Go to the project centre - select the new or modified view

Highlight a project (not click on the name)

Select Edit in the action bar above the project list

Your new notes field is displayed and you can add your notes and save ....

Repeat for each project

Not perfect - but better :)

I hope this fixes your issue

Hi,

Yes I kind of understand what you mean. I got a bit stuck though on
something.

I opened enterprise global and added a new column called 'Text1', but what
do you mean by leaving the custom attributes as none? I just didnt type
anything in the columns. Anyways I saved it and did everything else but it
didnt quite work. Most likely I haven't got it right at the beginning.

Hi

I can see where it went wrong ... no worries

Open the enterprise global

Tools > enterprise options > open enterprise global

You need to add a new custom field for example called "Project Notes"

Tools > customise > Enterprise Fields

Select the "Custom Fields" tab

Select the "Project" Radio button

From the Type drop down list select "Text"

Select the next available field e.g. Enterprise Text1

Click the rename button

In this case I have called the field Project Notes

That is it ... click the ok button ...

Save the Enterprise Global and close Project

Now to to the Web Access Client and select Admin and Manage Views

.... the rest is in the last email ...

The idea bahind this is that you will have a new column in the Project
Centre view of the Project Web Access client - no real value added if you use
this in Project Professional

Let me know if you need more information ....

Chris,

You do reply back quick! Thank you, it worked! I understand what it is
trying to do. Its a shame you have to go through each and every project to do
it. Very repetitive. But I suppose it is easier than opening the projects on
MS Project!

Thanks again

Hello Chris,

I am not sure if you will read this post again, but I will try anyways. You
know if you type in some notes next to the normal tasks, is it possible to
'roll it up' so that all the notes from the tasks will go on the 'summary'
task. I really don't think this is possible but my manager insists that you
can. Please tell me I am right.
