Notes Shortcut No Longer Works-Outlook 2003

If someone could please help me. Recently my NOTES
shortcut (l.h. bottom of screen) will no longer display
NOTES content. Instead, it displays INBOX mail items just
like the MAIL shortcut does. I also checked the
properties for the NOTES folder and it shows that the
properties are for mail & post messages instead of
for "folder containing NOTES items". I've reinstalled
office 2003 and experienced the same results. Does anyone
have an idea of what I can do to fix this? Any help is
appreciated.

OK. I've got something working now, but I hope I didn't screw up anything else. Here's what I did

I followed the directions to restart Outlook with the suggested switch (below). This fix gave me the Notes1 folder (see note below). Then, I went into the Mail view in Outlook and deleted the original Notes folder. Then, I went into Notes, and renamed Notes1 to Notes. Everything seems to be okay, but I do hope I haven't messed something up by deleting the old Notes folder from the Mail view

I tried this solution. The button now works to display the Notes content. However, it's now under a new folder called "Notes 1", which is empty, while my original notes remain in the "Notes" folder, and must be pulled up as described in the orginal problem. Please advise

Outlook should have jumped in then. To make sure everything is correct now
start Outlook again with /resetfolders. If the Notes1 folder doesn't return
anymore all is well.
