Notes vs. Comments

Using Project Server 2007 and PWA, we have noticed some of our comments are
missing. There is some confusion over comments vs. notes. Notes are usually
entered in the task details pane. The comments can be entered on the project
level and are usually only seen by the Project Manager. You also have the
option to enter comments when creating a new task. This is where our
confusion lies - how do you add notes that stay in the transaction log when
creating a task through PWA. The comments field on the task creation page
seems to act like the comments page front page of PWA with comments only
showing up for Project Manager. Is this field captured somewhere? Thanks.

Team members can see the running history of Comments on a task by clicking
the name of the task in the My Tasks page. The Assignment Details page then
shows a section that contains a running history of Comments. I believe that
PM's can see the transaction comments on the Task Updates page by clicking
the name of any task update. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks but that is our problem. The person who created the tasks included
all his notes in the 'comments' section in PWA. Then he went back in to 'My
Tasks' and viewed the task and it was not in his transaction history or in
notes. He created the task by going to 'My Tasks' page and then selected the
pull down option by 'New' and finally selected Task. He included all the
information about the task in the comments box and that's what we can't find.
The manager reviewed the task but didn't see the notes and it is not in the
notes tab in Project 2007 either. Can you review the comments on a task you
have already approved?

Thanks again,
Linda

Comments relate to the entire update. Notes relate to specific tasks. If a
user adds a Note, the Note appears to the PM on the update and is entered in
the Notes field for the task in Project Professional 2007. By chance, would
you want your people to use the Notes feature rather than the Comments
feature? Let us know.

Definitely would rather the users use notes as opposed to comments. I can
think of one user off hand that says his 'notes' have been lost a time or
two. I think he wrote comments but I asked which way he submitted notes and
he swears in the notes section of the task.
