Hi, is there a way to keep Notes in the desktop without having Outlook open?
Also is there a way to stop the note from appearing in the taskbar?

1) No, Outlook must be running otherwise it cannot read the pst-file (it's
like reading a Word document without starting Word)

Instead of Outlook's limited notes, I use Postit! Notes lite from
http://www.3m.com/market/office/postit/com_prod/psnotes/#lite
