Notification Engine

T

Terry Montgomery

Greetings,

In the Chefetz & Howard book "Administering an Enterprise PMO" in Module 6,
Configuration settings, there is discussion of setting the SMTP settings for
sending out emails. The term Notifications Engine is used on page 150. There
is also a statement "Note that alerts consist of email notifications sent
immediately when a triggering event occurs while reminders process once
daily."
Ok, my execs are asking me to configure an email "trigger" when a task is
not completed on time to be sent to the designated resource for that task. So
where do I get at this notification engine to design this trigger? I know I
can do it through an SQL trigger but if this notification engine is a simple
setup I would rather use that method than a custom database function.
Please advise.

Terry:

This type of reminder is available out-of-the-box through the interface. No
need to custom this one.

Terry --

Your managers can set up e-mail subscriptions for their team members about
overdue tasks by doing the following:

1. Log into PWA with project manager permissions or higher
2. Click the Notify me about my resources on tasks and status reports" link
in the sidepane on the left side of the Home page
3. In the "Send e-mail in the specified frequency for overdue tasks"
section, select the "Alert resources when their tasks are ___ days overdue"
option and specify the number of days that the task is overdue
4. Select the "e-mail my resources" option in this section
5. Click the Save Changes button

Hope this helps.
