Notification sounds E'rage

Hi all.

My notification sounds in E'rage (Office 2008 Mac) have gone mute. Just like
that.
I cannot think of any reason whatsoever. All other apps are just fine,
including all MSWord sounds.

I tried unchekking all sounds, quitting E'rage, restarting E'rage, and then
chekking them all again. No difference.
Also checking the database made no difference. Database is fine he said.

Anyone any idea how to fix this?

Thanks

Ev

Hi Diane

I booted my computer today, and it was all fine again...

To make sure I checked your webpage anyway and followed the advise, but the
audio settings were fine. Output was still 44100 Hz. Nothing had been
changed.

(However, at startup Entourage did check and repair main identity and
messages, like it does twice a week or so (!). But I can't imagine this has
anything to do with it.)

Big riddle, but problem solved...

Anyway, thanks for the advise. Good to know there is someone who really
knows about all this stuff.

How is Entourage running a check and repair? Verify runs in the background.
It is NOT advised to do rebuilding unless it is necessary!

I had to wait till he did it again.

This mornig on startup he gave a small extra window during the purple
Entourage startup window that said:

Updating identity
Updating messages

(translation mine)

This takes 10 seconds or so, and the the rest of the startup process
follows.

Happens like this once or twice a week or so.

Today again...

Is it normal it does so every day?
I sort of have gotten used to it, but I wonder still.

And, Diane, actually I don't know what you mean with "Verify runs in the
background". All I know is he does a check and repair at startup quite
often.

Today again...

Did you try the fixes on the link I sent yesterday? This is the only thing
that will fix the Setup Assistant looping problem.

no

If you hold down the Option key when launching Entourage the Database
Utility will open. You can select to run Verify. This is a background
feature. Sometimes this goes wonky and returns false results, but generally
it works as expected. Rebuild should only be done when you are having
problems. In fact, if you do it too often you can actually cause problems.

Does this help.
