Is there a suitable microsoft product that i could use to write a novel in ?

NotePad or Word?
You might get better answers at Vista groups, here is Visio but not Vista.

I'm pretty sure this must be the Visio.
Suggest you to use the "polyline" tool to be more productive ;)
