We finally have Exchange connectivity! Sort of.
Here are some observations after using Entourage for one day, in no
particular order:
1. Is it really an Exchange connection or just a different kind of
IMAP connection?
2. There's no easy way to return to your inbox, as in Outlook 2001.
If folders are expanded in the left pane, you have to go search for
your inbox instead of just clicking the Inbox button.
3. And there's no customizable navigation to put folders of your
choice on the left side. My rules put incoming messages into
various folders, and unless the folders pane happens to be expanded
just right, I can't see those folders and how many new messages are
in them.
4. Performance is poor, especially formatting HTML messages. But at
least they get displayed properly, with actual links that work.
5. When messages are sorted in ascending order by date received, new
mail scrolls off the bottom of the window, forcing you to scroll
down to see new messages. Outlook 2001 always scrolled down so
that new messages always appeared in the window.
6. The default and Microsoft sets of sounds for new mail notification
are annoying. Besides using no sound at all, is there a way to
change them?
7. Why do no meetings show up in the Calendar?
8. I spent a lot of time moving messages first from my Outlook 2001
.pst files to the Exchange server and then back out to my Mac. Why
is there no script available to do this?
9. The operation of Entourage seems, in general, more clumsy than
Outlook 2001. I love not using Classic any more, and have made
the switch to Entourage, but hey, if Calendar doesn't work, I might
as well use Apple's Mail.
