Now you see it .....

I have Outlook open and minimised in the systray all the time. I also have
the 'display notification when new mail arrives' unchecked as I find it
irritating.
What I like is having the tiny envelope icon in the systray when new mail
arrives (and the sound prompt). However sometimes I get that and sometimes
I don't. Does anyone know why and how I can make it happen every time?

No as I don't use the active/inactive setting.
