NPOFFICE.DLL - What does this plugin do?

During the installation of Outlook 2003 (over Office 2000), the
Microsoft Office Plugin für Netscape Navigator is installed as well.
The file NPOFFICE.DLL is copied to the plugin directory of Netscape.

I could not find any information about this plugin in the MS Knowledge
Base. Now what does this plugin do? What can I do with Netscape and
Office that is not possible without the plugin?
