NT error message- HELP

I run windows XP on my laptop. After removal of a virus
(Goabot.gen)- I now have problems with the laptop during
startup. It gets very slow (almost seems frozen)during
logon to the internet (verizon-MSN DSL connection). Then
I get a message that says NT On Access Scanner Service
has encountered problems. Any ideas on where to start?
