NT password authentication fails

P

I am using Outlook 2000, WinXP client PCs connected in a Win2000 Active
Directory domain using Exchange 2000. The MS Exchange Service in Outlook is
set up to use NT Password Authentication, and has been working fine.

I had a user use Outlook Web Access to log into a company mailbox that we
use for job applicants. She entered the username/password when prompted, and
then selected "Remember My Password" in the Internet Explorer login window.
Since that time, NT Password Authentication no longer works in Outlook, we
only get "Unable to display the selected folder or item. You do not have
permission to log on." If we select "none" for authenticaton in the Exchange
Settings, she is prompted for her AD username/password, and Outlook logs in
correctly.

If this user logs into another PC, NT Password Authentication works fine.
If I log into her PC, it also works fine.

In Internet Explorer, if we try to use Outlook Web Access again, the
username/password defaults to the community mailbox username, instead of this
user's. I'm suspecting that NT Password Authentication is attempting to log
in using that community mailbox, which would be incorrect. Is there a way
to remove that username password? It isn't stored in Autocomplete, which is
just for forms.

I have been able to reproduce this behavior on another PC with a different
user. Any assistance would be appreciated.
