% number against Enterprise Resource's

R

Ris

Hi

I feel really silly asking this question but I'm only new to project and pwa.

I have created a project in project professional and allocates some
resources against the tasks, sometimes I get a %number beside the resource
names and I'm not sure why I get this. And other times I cannot get it to
happen. What am I missing here.

Please explain

Thanks

Hello Ris,

If you get Robert[50%] besides a task, that means that you assigned Robert
at 50% of its time on that task (May be 4hours a day if you ahve a 8hrs/day
calendar).
If you assign a ressource full time on a task, that is to say 100%, Project
does'nt display the 100% : you can see the resource name without any
percentage.

Have a look at Mike Glen site: Working with resources, and Task Types
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMFrame.asp?CMD=ArticleSearch&AUTH=23

Hope this helps,

The % means that the resource is not scheduled to work full-time on the task.
That is because of the amount of work assigned to the resource in comparison
to the time the resource has to do the work.

If you insert the work column in your Gantt Chart view, next to the Duration
column, you will start to see how this works.

Also, you need to learn about the three different task types -- Fixed Work,
Fixed Units, and Fixed Duration. The advanced tab in the Task Information
Dialog box will display the task type. To see it, double-click on the task
or select the task and press <Shift><F2>.

It usually takes a long time to get comfortable with how this stuff works.
A class, or a book, or a knpowledgeable colleague will help a lot.
