number formats

Dan Hignight

I have an excel file that has 4 worksheets. The number
format is not correct. I want to change this format
(number only) in the number (not text) cells. How do I
acccomplish this without entering the new format into
each cell. Keep in mind that these cells jump around in
the worksheet. Though some of them are adjacent the
majority are not.

Thanks

Dan,

You can just select the entire range:

changing the number format for a text cell
won't matter as long as you dont filter out
the text display in the number format mask's 4th argument.

That said, and you still dont feel comfortable:
to select numbers in a range use F5/special

if your number format is like 0,0-,-,""
it will prevent any text from showing

if you DONT specify the 4th argument, e.g.
your number format= 0,0-,-

you should have no problems when you set the number format
for an entire range, also if that range includes text.
