Number Formatting in Tables

I have a table that contains a column of numbers that I would like to format
as currency. In Wordperfect for Windows this can be done via a column
format feature. I can't find a similar feature in Word 2004 for Mac. Can
anyone point me in the right direction for doing this? Thanks--Jay

Hi Jay-

WP can offer that because it actually uses an underlying spreadsheet applet
as the basis for its tables. That also provides for easier use of formulas
that update automatically, etc., but it also makes the file more cumbersome
and sluggish... Especially in files with many calculations in tables. So, in
a Word table you have to type the currency formatting characters unless the
number is the result of a formula field.

If that is important to you, consider _not_ using a Word table as such.
Instead, create & format in Excel. Then select & copy the content, go back
to your Word document as use Edit>Paste Special--Formatted Text (I've found
that to usually work better than just 'paste'). Either way the content will
be pasted as a Word table, complete with all of your formatting, currency &
otherwise.

CyberTaz, thanks for the tip! For large tables it would definitely be
easier to paste from Excel--Jay
