Number Formatting

Is there a way to change the default number sequence for
an outline?

Problem: After entering text in an outline at Level 1, I
press enter and then tab to start Level 2. The number
sequence at Level 2 has to be changed, causing me to
either, open the task pane and choose a numbering
sequence or click on numbering on my toolbar, every time
I start a new Level.

WHen startintg a new level I do not want to have to apply
a sequence every time. I want OneNote to remember what
sequence I use for Lever2, Level 3, etc.

Thanks

There is no way to change the default numbering. But if you want to avoid
going to the toolbar or the Numbering pane, you can try this:

When you are starting a line, just type the number format that you want to
use, then press space. OneNote will start using that number format.
Examples:
1.<space>
1)<space>
i.<space>
a.<space>
a)<space>
OneNote will apply the format you want regardless of whether the numbering
is already turned on or not.

This doesn't work for me. When I type 1.<space> on the 3rd level of my
outline, it's as good as plain text -- meaning there is no hanging indent if
the item runs onto a second line, which is indicative of true outline
numbering.

Of course, I have auto-numbering turned off -- do I need to turn this back on?
