Number List Tab Settings

When using Word and making a list of items with numbers or
bullets the first two numbers or bullets indent properly
after pressing tab, then the number 1. then tab, 2. then
tab. When typing 3. and all numbers thereafter the tab
setting aligns to the right one tab stop rignt of 1. and 2.

Looks like
1. one
2. two
3. three
4. four

In the Menu bar under Format, AutoCorrect, General
Document, AutoFormat as you type tab; both the Automatic
bullet lists and Automatic numbered lists boxes are
checked.

How can I fix this, and set the proper repeat tab spacing?
