Number of pages field problem

F

fred kruger

I have put a NUMPAGES field in a protected sectrion of a
document and want it to update as more pages are added. I
know these type of fields usual;ly only update when print
is selected but for somereason this field wont update
even then and remains at what ever it started at although
the pageno does so yopu end up with page 2 of 1 but if
the field is placed in the header or footer there is no
probs.

Am I using the right field for this i cannot use section
page as my documents can sometimes have upto 30-40
section breaks so this is no use.

I can hard code using VBA butI am wanting to do it
automatically. any ideas please I am using word 97 sp2 on
windows xp pro.

Cheers

Fred

Hi Fred,

See the article ""Page X of Y" displays or prints as "Page 1 of 1," "Page 2
of 2" (or "Page 2 of 1") and so on" at:

Try changing it to a numpages field and see whether that helps. That
is, use small letters for the field instead of capitals. I know this
sounds weird, but it fixes a possibly-related bug and I am curious
whether it fixes this one. It is simple to find out, if you have a
document with the problem. If you try it, let us know whether or not
it works.
