number of pages keeps rising to 6450 and then Word Crashes!

I was editing my document okay earlier today, but something happened to cause
the number of pages to rapidly increase without me doing anything. When I
save the document again, this process starts over, again increasing...until
about 6500 pages, when the program crashes. I installed an update through MS
site, rebooted, cut and pasted, but the same problem. If I cut and paste
with no formatting, the problem goes away, but so does my lovely formating.

The usual reason is a corrupt Table that is causing all the additional
pagination. If you were working on a table in the document recently, try
converting the table to text to see if that removes the corruption. If that
doesn't work, let us know which version of Word and OS you are using.
