Number of Pages

W

William Wolfe

I want the 'number of pages' in my footer to reflect the number pages, not
including a title page and table of contents. How do I do this?

Thanks,

William Wolfe

There are a couple of ways to do this depending on other considerations.

If all the pages after the front matter are in a single section, you can use
the SectionPages field instead of NumPages. If not, you'll need to use a
calculated field:

{ = { NUMPAGES } - x }

where x is the number of pages of front matter. If that number is uncertain,
you can put a bookmark on the last page of the front matter and use a
cross-reference to the page number of that bookmark for the x.

I've tried using a similar method but can't seem to get the result I need. I
want to omit the page numbers on the title page, TOC AND the last cover
page. To not have numbering on the front matter I simply inserted a
continuous break on page 2 then set the footer to nothing for those two
pages (section1). Then in section 2 I have attempted using the following as
the footer (set to not same as previous) to eliminate the page number on the
last page: {IF {PAGE} < {{NUMPAGES}-1} {PAGE} ""} . I get blanks on all
pages.

Can someone see what is not happning here?

I believe you need { = { NUMPAGES } - 1} (and you don't need to include the
FalseText). But it would be simpler to use:

{ IF { PAGE } = { NUMPAGES } "" {PAGE } }
