IS ACCESS 2000 LIMITED TO 5000 RECORDS? I USED GRADUATE
STUDENTS TO IMPLEMENT A DESIGN AND MY OWN IT PEOPLE SAYS
IT CAN HANDLE UNLIMITED RECORDS. MY GRAD DESIGNERS SAYS IT
IS LIMITED TO 5000 RECORDS.

No. An Access 2000 or newer version database is limited to the number of
records which can fit into a database which does not exceed 2 GB in size.
You can show your grad designers the definitive word on this by opening
Access Help and, in the Answer Wizard, type the word: specifications

Firstly, please don't use all caps. It hard to read and "all caps" means
shouting in newsgroups. Please use proper caps.

Secondly, no database engine can handle *unlimited* number of records for
the simple fact that computer resources (e.g. memory, storage space, etc...)
so your IT people are not entirely accurate. The 5000 records for Access
(JET actually) is definitely wrong.

Access does not have an official limit on the number of Records (in a Table)
but there is a size limit of 2 GB on the file. Even if each record uses
only 1 byte, there will be "derived" limit due to file size.

Type "Specification" in Access Help Index to get more info and other limits.

To add to what the others have said, I've seen an Access table with 5 million records. (My personal comfort limit is about 1
million.)
