Number paragraphs easy?

Hi,

I just want my report to have numbered paragraphs with sub-headings as:

1. Main Para
1.1 Sub Par

2. Next Main
2.1 Sub 1

etc,

I have got into a terrible tangle with the numbering options in styles and
whatever I try, ALL the sub paras get numbered 1.1.1, 1.1.2 and so on
without regard for the level above. The main paras are level 2 and the subs
at level 3. Level 1 is the main title for the whole report. As with so
much in Word this is mega frustrating - can anyone please help?

then apply the appropriate heading style to each of your headings.
