Number style and TOC

Is it possible to to have appendices (that are different
sections) to have the number format A-1, A-2..., then B-
1, B-2..., and to generate a TOC with those nnumbers? I
really need help on this. This document is for a
government customer and he has requested this from us. I
appreciate ANY help!
