Number Style for Heading 2

I am doing a litigation doc and I want to have "Request No. 1" as Heading 1
and "Response to Request No. 1" as Heading 2. When I try to modify the
numbering format for Heading 1, the "Number Format" box will not let me fit
"No." Is there any way to fit that whole "Response to Request No. 1"? Of
course, the "1" is automatically there.

Any help please?

I made an error in my post. When I try to modify the numbering format it is
for Heading 2 "Response to Request No. 1" not Heading 1 as I wrote.

There is a limit to how much text you can put before a number, and I think
you may have hit it. What is really bizarre is that you can add that amount
of text before simple numbering, just not in the outline numbering. It's
icky, but could you use "Response to Req. No." or Response to R. No."?

Bizarre alright, since regular numbering is supposed to be handled the same as outline numbering "behind the scenes".

And if you save as HTML and edit the HTML style definition to the longer text, it seems to work fine, even if you save in *.doc format later on... at least until you try to edit the numbering.
It seems as if the designers of the outline numbering dialog imposed an arbitrary limit to the amout of text...
And it's somewhat ironic that "Response to request number one" is changed to "Response to request none".
