Number style won't restart

In Word 2000 I created a number style (Number) that works fine. When I'm ready to restart the sequence, I click Format > Bullets & Numbering > Restart option button. But I created a second numbering style (NumberIndented) that is indented and uses a different sequence format (a, b, c, etc), and when I open the Bullets & Numbering paragraph box, the option button is disabled. I tried basing the indented style on the main style (Number) to convince Word that they were both numbering styles, but no luck. How can I get my second style to restart at a?

You need to set up an outline-numbered list. See
