Numbered lists in template

We are using a Word template that we have created in which there are 3 levels
of numbering. Quite often the numbering is interrupted by a bulleted list or
table requiring us to continue the previous numbering. We also have instances
where we need to restart the numbering following a table or bulleted list.
We are having what appears to be sporadic problems where the option to
restart or continue the numbering is grayed out. The style assigned to the
numbering is correct as about 75% of the time we have the option to continue
or restart numbering. Has anyone else seen this problem? We are on Windows
2000 with Office XP Word 2002. Thank you.

Thank you for your response. I found the information you suggested below
helpful for many other things, but unfortunately the suggestions did not
resolve my numbering problem. The format painter did not work nor did
clearing my settings or reseting the numbering. I am still encountering
situations where the option to restart or continue numbering is grayed out.

have no problem with this.
