Numbered lists in W2000 and beyond??

I was working with WordPerfect at the office, wrestling with numbered lists
that wouldn't behave. When I got home, I tried to perform the same work with
Word 2000, thinking that surely Word would be an improvement. Well, obviously,
it wasn't, as other posters to this Newsgroup can attest. Fortunately, the MVP
site provided some helpful answers.

Anyway, have later versions of Word cleaned this up? I wondering whether to
upgrade now or sit it out till the next version comes out.

Working with numbering is somewhat improved in Word 2002, though it is still
advisable to use style-based outline numbering, carefully defined and
applied, as described at
