Numbered lists in word

I attempted to make a style that I would introduce on the line above each
numbed list in an attempt to restart the numbering. I followed the tutorial at
http://www.brainbell.com/tutorials/ms-office/Word/Correct_Automatic_Numbering_In_Numbered_Lists.htm

but am not having success. I created a style called "numbered_steps", and a
style "restart numbering". Each time I attempt to start a new list I utilize
the restart_numbering style I created, and then Numbered_stepsit continues
the numbering from the previous.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
