Numbered lists

I have made a style for numbered lists. The first list in
a document is ok, but the following lists continue
numbering from the previous lists:
Ex:
list 1:
1. sfdsf
2. sdlkfjsdk

List 2:
3. sfjskf
4. slkfjlskd

list 3
5. sdfksdlk - etc.
How do I define a style that starts every new list with 1.?

Hi Margaret
Thanks for your quick reply. I'll try and implement your
method and cross my fingers that it works.

One way is to use a higher-level style to restart numbering. If you have a
paragraph (such as that represented by your "List 1," "List 2" headings)
that always precedes the numbered lists, you can set it as Level 1
(unnumbered) of an outline-numbered list, set up as described in
