Numbered Lists

Hi -
I added outline numbering to headings 1 through 5. My
expectation was as follows:

1. heading 1a
1.1 heading 2a under heading 1a
1.2 heading 2b under heading 1a
1.2.1 heading 3a under heading 2b
1.2.2 heading 3b under heading 2b
1.3 heading 2c under heading 1a
2. heading 1b
2.1 heading 2c under heading 1b

get the picture?

well what happens
is

1. heading 1a
1.1 heading 2a under heading 1a
1.2 heading 2b under heading 1a
1.2.1 heading 3a under heading 2b
1.2.2 heading 3b under heading 2b
1.3 heading 2c under heading 1a
2. heading 1b
1.1 heading 2c under heading 1b <========

I can't seem to configure Word 2002 to use the new level
1 heading.

Make sure that you reset all the numbering panels in the Bullets and
Numbering dialog box (see the "Tip: Reset the ListGallery before you start"
on that page).

The problem you are experiencing occurs if you try to modify your numbering
when your cursor is in a Heading 2 paragraph. Always go to a Heading 1
paragraph, and modify your numbering from there.
