Numbered Lists

In previous versions of Word, I used to be able to customize a numbered list
i.e.:

inches indent of first line;
inches for tabbing;
whether the second line would line up with first line --

There was a little window that popped up and I could customize these
numbers. Do I have to do this with the ruler now or is the pop window in a
different place. I see that you can choose certain styles, but I cannot
find the window to customize these settings.

I would appreciate any help!

For single-level lists, you can right-click and choose Adjust List Indents.
The dialog box allows you to to set the indent and tab position.

Note, however, that the Adjust List Indents command is not available for all
single-level lists (for some strange reason). If you can't see it, attach a
keyboard shortcut to the AdjustListIndents command and use the shortcut
whenever you need to access the dialog box.

After you've changed the indentation settings for your list, you can update
the paragraph style: Right-click the paragraph, click Styles on the context
menu, and then click Update <style name> to Match Selection.

For multilevel lists, do the following: Place the insertion point in the
first top-level paragraph (for heading numbering, this means the first
Heading 1 paragraph). On the Home tab, click Multilevel List, and then click
Define New Multilevel List. Word displays a dialog box similar to the
Customize Outline Numbered List dialog box of previous versions, and the
instructions at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html are still
useful.
