I have a table of contents in a PowerPoint - the item with a series of
dots,
then the page number:
Big dogs.............1
Small dogs.........2
Big cats.............3
etc.
How do I line up the numbers so they aren't all crooked?
Echo's way works but...
If you want the dots or dashes you can create the TOC in Word using the tab
key. Copy the entire typed TOC into the clipboard and then paste onto a
blank slide.
In Word set the document margins to the size of the general area of the
slide. I wouldn't use a document larger than about 6 inches so set the left
and right margins to 1.25 inches (the default when Word is first set up.)
Ensure that the rulers are showing in Word. Click on the ruler where you
want the numbers to appear right justified. The remaining instructions are
for Word 2003 or earlier. Click Format, Tabs. Click the tab listed in the
Tab stop position: if it isn't already in the box above. Click the Right
button and then the 2, 3 or 4 depending on what leader you want. Click Set
then OK.
Type a few lines of the TOC in Word pressing the Tab key to get to the right
margin and type the page numbers. Enter to go to next line.
Before typing the full TOC test it's size by copy and pasting a few lines
into PowerPoint. Highlight all the text and Hold Ctrl down while pressing
the C key. (copies to clipboard.) Go to a blank slide in PPT. Hold Ctrl
while pressing V key (pastes to PPT.) Click anywhere in the pasted image
and move to the desired location to see if the sizing is proper for your
slide. If it is just finish typing the TOC in Word, copy and paste. If it
needs to be wider select all the text currently in Word and then click and
drag the tab to the right in the ruler. Will add more ... to the TOC.
By the way, the copied image is just that, an image. The text can actually
be enlarged or made smaller by dragging a resize handle on a corner of the
pasted TOC image.
Hope this helps, let us know.
