Numbering columns in Word!

Hi everyone!

If I divide pages in MS Word into columns (normal Columns), say 2 columns,
how can I number
these columns so that it continues automatically? I mean just like numbering
pages, a way to
numbering (automatically) columns, so in one page I have two columns and
they are numbered. Do I need to use Macro in this case? Because I couldn't
find any commands to numbering columns. Frankly, I have never
used Macros too.

Note: when I have a book of say 400 pages, each page divided into two
columns, and each column has a number either on top or bottom. I really
appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance,

Areta

You could try the procedure outlined in the following article to
create your column numbers:

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/Print2Pages.htm

The purpose of the article is to mimic printing two pages on a single
sheet of paper, with (calculated) page numbers, but it seems to me as
if it would work equally well for your needs, since you can use the
calculated page numbers as your column numbers!

If you don't want your column numbers (actually calculated page
numbers) positioned in the header or footer you can place them in
frames or text boxes anchored to the header and footer and then place
them wherever you want them.

Note that since this approach uses the PAGE field, any changes to the
page number properties in Word, such as restarting page numbering by
section, would reflect in the "column numbers."
