I need to submit a manuscript with every line numbered. Does Word have that capability? How do I enable it?

I think this is what you are looking for:

On the Format menu, click Document, and then click the Layout tab.

Click Line Numbers.

Select the Add line numbering check box, and then select the options that you want.

Hope this helped
Cheers :)

Before using Office 08, a word document used to have not only the page number shown at the bottom, but also the number of the line you were on {line numbers were also shown down the left margin]. I don't need these line numbers on the printed document {as the person in the message above}, but I do need to know which line I am typing on. Is there any way to show these [unprinted] line numbers?

I'm afraid the information simply isn't available for display. The only
suggestion I can offer is to use the method described in the other post to
turn line numbering ON while you're working then go back & turn it OFF when
you're ready to print. A clumsy workaround, but all I can think of.

Don't hesitate to use Help> Send Feedback to add your comments on the
information missing from the Status Bar. Include a description of the nature
of your work, your documents & why the info is important to you.
