Numbering footnotes at end of document

I've just translated a book in which there are 400 odd footnotes. When I choose the option of placing the footnotes at the end of the document, they appear un-numbered: that is, all begin with number 1. I need to check my footnote numbering against that of the original.

Is there anybody who has had this problem & can give me a hand?

Footnotes can only be placed at the bottom of each page; only endnotes can be positioned at the end of the document. I suggest you check what numbering format has been applied to the endnotes.
