numbering I-1, II-1

I have a document that has two distinct sections. I want the first section
to be numbered with the roman numberal I as a prefix (I-1, I-2. . . ), while
the second section having II-1, II-2, etc.

I can not seem to get my head around this. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

You'll need to have used the I and II in autonumbered headings. See
