I have a document in Word 2003 that I’ve defined numbering for heading
styles as follows:
Heading 1, Level 1 – ARTICLE 1
Heading 2, Level 2 – 1.1.
Heading 3, Level 3 – 1.1.1.
Heading 4, Level 4 – 1.1.1.1.
Heading 5, Level 5 – 1.1.1.1.1.
Heading 6, Level 6 – 1.
Heading 7, Level 7 – 1.1.
Heading 8, Level 8 – 1.1.1.
Headings 1 through 6 work fine, and the first Heading 6 gives me the 1
and two Heading 7s give me 1.1 and 1.2, but after getting the 2 for
the next Heading 6, the ensuing Heading 7 gives me 1.3 instead of 2.1.
I know this numbering scheme seems strange, but it’s a lengthy,
complicated document that has a main section and then a schedule that
restarts numbering differently, thus the need for Heading 6 starting
over at 1. I’ve tried everything I know but can’t get this to work.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
