Numbering Issues

I have some family members about to lose their minds over this one. We
can't get the list numbering to work right. It is Word XP SP3. Every
time we go to the Bullets and Numbering menu, the options change to
some off the wall characters. The BAN settings don't work right
either. We are also having some other issues with Word not wanting to
word wrap right. Could this be a corrupt normal.dot, or is it
something else? Thanks!
