Numbering of invoices

I know that it is possible to insert the current date
every time that a document is opened. Is it possible to
insert the next consecutive number every time the
document is opened? For example, the first time an
invoice is opened the number would be 1100. The next time
the same document is opened the number would be 1101, and
the next time the number would be 1102, etc.
