Numbering Pages

Sometimes I can insert page numbers with no problem, then for no apparent reason if I say I want to start at, say, no. 4, the system inserts no. 5 and nothing I do has any effect.

This is driving me crazy - I regularly need to be able to be able to number a series of documents consecutively and just can't figure out what the problem is.

And right now I have a big research report to submit by tomorrow - PLEASE HELP!

Page numbering can be complex if you let it be.

My wild guess is that you have set your Section to start on an "Odd Page".

If you have, Word will insert a blank sheet before your document when it
sends it to the printer, so that the first page will be an odd page. And it
will indeed be Page 5.

If you change that document to start on the "Next Page", you will then be
able to start it on an even page if you wish, and Page Number 4 will be the
first one visible.

Cheers
